Delisting of the Lake Erie watersnake resulted from intensive monitoring which demonstrated that the Population Persistence criterion of the Lake Erie watersnake recovery plan had been met. Monitoring was heavily dependent on efforts of volunteers participating in intensive population censuses each spring and less intensive efforts throughout the active season.
