Participants who complete all course requirements and complete a capstone project will be certified as California Naturalists through the University of California California Naturalist Program, and will receive a certificate of completion and a pin. Core topics of the course include: wildlife: animals, California bioregions and ecosystems, California native plants, algae, introduced species, water resources, global environmental issues, our changing coastline, weather and climate, scientific methods, and data collection. By the end of the course participants will understand the role and approach of a Naturalist, be able knowledge about multidisciplinary knowledge, record field observations and apply this knowledge to understand both local and global environmental issues.
