Beach Sweep/River Sweep

Beach Sweep/River Sweep is South Carolina’s largest one-day, volunteer-driven litter cleanup. Since 1988, every 3rd Saturday in September thousands of South Carolinians and visitors clear beaches, marshes, creeks, rivers, and lakes of debris. The S.C. Sea Grant Consortium organizes cleanup efforts in the eight coastal counties and the S.C. Department of Natural Resources organizes cleanups in the inland counties. Beach Sweep/River Sweep is held in conjunction with the International Coastal Cleanup, which is coordinated by the Ocean Conservancy. There are many local cleanups, from Waties Island in the north to Daufuskie Island in the south and lots of areas in between. Check the Cleanup Sites for your area and contact the Site Captain directly to let them know you’d like to join their team!
